About Me

I’m wakeem, someone who enjoys solving problems efficiently, experimenting, learning, and figuring out the operating principles of new technology.

Current focus: improving my coding skills, learning new skills - like drawing and graphics design, and creating new projects that challenge me.

Ever since I was young, I was always a curious child and loved experimenting with new things. I took apart things to see how they worked. I fixed things. I played with things I probably shouldn't have.

My fascination with technology stemmed from this curiosity. I used to always find stuff to take apart and play with. The first thing I remember being able to understand and put back together was this RC car. It was ~$10 and was around the size of a Hot Wheels car. I was bored and decided to take it apart. After doing so, was somehow able to understand what goes where and how it works. Though, I obviously only knew to an extent what the parts were. I was going based off of theories and not research.

I put it back together and it fully worked, to my surprise. After that, I took apart many things just to put them back together. I even started fixing broken things around the house. And even taking garbage and fixing it or scrapping it for parts. The main thing I used to fix was my Nintendo Switch.

For years it would get broken. Whether it was due to age, or from my brother breaking it, it would get damaged a lot. After years of fixing it, I know it by heart. Another example would be my current laptop. I don’t even have the screws in the laptop case since I tinker with it so much. Mainly because of the fan since it’s defective so I have to tinker it every now and then.

More recently, I have been getting into coding a lot. I got good at it almost immediately and went on to achieve a lot within a short time. My first achievement was getting my Pitt project for CHS programming into one line using list comprehension. This is an intermediate level technique often taught in college, and I did it without any source material. I figured it out just by experimenting. Then, I managed to basically master it. Lastly, I implemented it into my code. And all in less than half an hour.

A more recent achievement of mine would be the making of a Jarvis-like utility based AI. Though not complete, it still has some useful functionality. Like being able to turn off and on my lights and setting reminders. Along with this, I also have been working on a conversation AI, named Sage, that I hope to make more advance and implement more utility into in the near future.

CHS Programming — [Pitt Projects] >
In my CHS Programming class, we had to do three projects. The Monty Hall Problem, where at the end we had to make a program that simulates the Monty Hall problem and shows the results, The second project where we had to make a count of the words of 3 sherlock holmes books and take away the most common words and compare the end results, and lastly, the third Pitt project where we used Object Orienting to make a flashcard quiz user interface with multiple choice, true or false, and short answer questions.
